Echinocactus Click on a thumbnail on the right to view the individual species and for purchasing information.
The native habitats for Echinocactus are in the regions of the Southwestern United States and Northern Mexico. Most of them are generally round with deep ribs and thick spines, and plants grow from a foot to three feet wide and a foot to six feet tall depending on the species. They are often used as landscaping plants in dry regions and their flowers are usually small and range in the yellow, white to pinks and salmon. They need lots of direct sun as adult plants and are best grown outdoors, but will do well as house plants if they are put outdoors in full sun in the growing seasons.
