Potential living space locations include; East, West or South windows and three to four season rooms are good, but it will grow better outdoors. Plants will do better if they are provided with cold winter conditions. This is a cold climate cactus and will survive winters down to almost 20 °F, and will thrive in very hot summer conditions. They survive best in very dry conditions and often tend to rot with exposed to soggy soil conditions, and need the stay dry in the winter to prevent fungal infections.
Their flowers are bright pink to magenta.
These cacti grow with a columnar appearance to about 10 inches tall and a few inches wide. They grow as a single stemmed cactus with spine making them appear almost completely white.
