good locations

Potential living space locations include; East, West or South windows and three to four season rooms with partial shade is good, but it will grow better with more light. This species does best in warm conditions, and will need the temperatures to remain above 45 °F. If this variety is to be set outdoors during the growing season it needs to be in sunny location with some filtered light and will tolerate lots of rain. This species can suffer skin damage if it is exposed to too much sun on very hot days, so filtered light in the mid day heat prevents this species from suffering cosmetic damage.

This species sports bright red spines that will retain their color if the plant is kept out of extreme conditions. This is a cactus that can be set outdoors only in the warmest part of the growing season, otherwise it's better to keep it in a sunny window.

size

The plant grows as a more columnar cactus than globular, although it remains globular as a young plant for many years. When it is older it may be up to 3 inches wide and 6 inches high, and have multiple side branches along the stem and/or pups at the base of the stem. The flowers are bright yellow cone shapes, and these plants are beautiful with deep green skin and bright red spines.
