This genus of globular cacti grows in northern Mexico and are sometimes nick named 'Brain Cactus' because of their wavy ribs. They are mostly small singular slow growing plants which are easy to care for in a small sunny space. They have small bright flowers with colors from yellow, white and pinks through magenta and purple. Some specie have flowers with petals that are lit pink or white and having a darker pink stripe giving them a sort of stripped candy appearance. They need a window location with some direct sun and it's important to withhold water through the cool season when they are resting.
